بَابُ فَضْلُ الْجِهَادِ وَالسِّيَرِ:
باب فضل الجهاد والسير:
(1) Chapter. The superiority of Jihad.

بَابُ أَفْضَلُ النَّاسِ مُؤْمِنٌ يُجَاهِدُ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب أفضل الناس مؤمن يجاهد بنفسه وماله فى سبيل الله:
(2) Chapter. The best among the people is that believer who strives his utmost in Allah’s Cause with both his life and property.

بَابُ الدُّعَاءِ بِالْجِهَادِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ لِلرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ:
باب الدعاء بالجهاد والشهادة للرجال والنساء:
(3) Chapter. The invocation of men and women that Allah may let them participate in Jihad and adorn them with martyrdom.

بَابُ دَرَجَاتِ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب درجات المجاهدين فى سبيل الله:
(4) Chapter. The grades of the Mujadhidun (Muslim fighters) in Allah’s Cause.

بَابُ الْغَدْوَةِ وَالرَّوْحَةِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، وَقَابُ قَوْسِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ:
باب الغدوة والروحة فى سبيل الله، وقاب قوس أحدكم من الجنة:
(5) Chapter. To proceed in Allah’s Cause in the forenoon and in the afternoon. A place in Paradise as small as the bow of one of you (is better than the world and whatever is in it).

بَابُ الْحُورُ الْعِينُ وَصِفَتُهُنَّ:
باب الحور العين وصفتهن:
(6) Chapter. AI-Hur-ul-Ein (houris fair females) and their qualities.

بَابُ تَمَنِّي الشَّهَادَةِ:
باب تمني الشهادة:
(7) Chapter. The wish for martyrdom.

بَابُ فَضْلِ مَنْ يُصْرَعُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَمَاتَ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ:
باب فضل من يصرع فى سبيل الله فمات فهو منهم:
(8) Chapter. The superiority of him who goes in Allah’s Cause and dies on the way, for he will be regarded as one of the martyrs.

بَابُ مَنْ يُنْكَبُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب من ينكب فى سبيل الله:
(9) Chapter. (The reward of) him who is injured or stabbed in Allah’s Cause.

بَابُ مَنْ يُجْرَحُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ:
باب من يجرح فى سبيل الله عز وجل:
(10) Chapter. (The superiority of) him who is wounded in Allah’s Cause.

بَابُ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَا إِلاَّ إِحْدَى الْحُسْنَيَيْنِ} وَالْحَرْبُ سِجَالٌ:
باب قول الله تعالى: {هل تربصون بنا إلا إحدى الحسنيين} والحرب سجال:
(11) Chapter. The Statement of Allah: “Say: Do you wait for us (anything) except one of the two best things (martyrdom or victory)?..” (V.9:52)

بَابُ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَنْتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلاً} :
باب قول الله تعالى: {من المؤمنين رجال صدقوا ما عاهدوا الله عليه فمنهم من قضى نحبه ومنهم من ينتظر وما بدلوا تبديلا} :
(12) Chapter. The Statement of Allah: “Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah (i.e., that they have gone out for Jihad (holy fighting) and showed not their backs to the disbelievers), of them some have fulfilled their obligations (i.e., have been martyred), and some of them are still waiting, but they have never changed in the least." (V.33:23)

بَابُ عَمَلٌ صَالِحٌ قَبْلَ الْقِتَالِ:
باب عمل صالح قبل القتال:
(13) Chapter. Practising good deeds before taking part in a (holy) battle.

بَابُ مَنْ أَتَاهُ سَهْمٌ غَرْبٌ فَقَتَلَهُ:
باب من أتاه سهم غرب فقتله:
(14) Chapter. Whoever is struck and killed by an arrow thrown by an unidentified person.

بَابُ مَنْ قَاتَلَ لِتَكُونَ كَلِمَةُ اللَّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا:
باب من قاتل لتكون كلمة الله هي العليا:
(15) Chapter. Whoever fights so that Allah’s Word (i.e., Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism) be superior.

بَابُ مَنِ اغْبَرَّتْ قَدَمَاهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب من اغبرت قدماه فى سبيل الله:
(16) Chapter. (The superiority of him) Whose feet get covered with dust in Allah’s Cause.

بَابُ مَسْحِ الْغُبَارِ عَنِ النَّاسِ فِي السَّبِيلِ:
باب مسح الغبار عن الناس فى السبيل:
(17) Chapter. To remove the dust which falls on one’s head (whilst striving) in Allah’s Cause.

بَابُ الْغَسْلِ بَعْدَ الْحَرْبِ وَالْغُبَارِ:
باب الغسل بعد الحرب والغبار:
(18) Chapter. To take a bath after fighting and (after being soild with) dust.

بَابُ فَضْلِ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {وَلاَ تَحْسِبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتًا بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ فَرِحِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَلْحَقُوا بِهِمْ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَنْ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَفَضْلٍ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ} :
باب فضل قول الله تعالى: {ولا تحسبن الذين قتلوا فى سبيل الله أمواتا بل أحياء عند ربهم يرزقون فرحين بما آتاهم الله من فضله ويستبشرون بالذين لم يلحقوا بهم من خلفهم أن لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون يستبشرون بنعمة من الله وفضل وأن الله لا يضيع أجر المؤمنين} :
(19) Chapter. The superiority of (those people for whom) the following Statement of Allah (was revealed): “Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision. They rejoice in what Allah has betowed upon them of His Bounty, and rejoice for the sake of those who have not yet joined them, but are left behind (not yet martyred) that on them no fear shall come, nor shall they grieve. They rejoice in aGrace and a Bounty from Allah, and that Allah will not waste the reward of the believers." (V.3:169-171)

بَابُ ظِلِّ الْمَلاَئِكَةِ عَلَى الشَّهِيدِ:
باب ظل الملائكة على الشهيد:
(20) Chapter. The shade of angels on the martyr.

بَابُ تَمَنِّي الْمُجَاهِدِ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا:
باب تمني المجاهد أن يرجع إلى الدنيا:
(21) Chapter. The wish of the (martyred) Mujahid to return to the world.

بَابُ الْجَنَّةُ تَحْتَ بَارِقَةِ السُّيُوفِ:
باب الجنة تحت بارقة السيوف:
(22) Chapter. Paradise is under the blades of swords (Jihad in Allah’s Cause).

بَابُ مَنْ طَلَبَ الْوَلَدَ لِلْجِهَادِ:
باب من طلب الولد للجهاد:
(23) Chapter. (The reward of him) who wishes to beget a son to send for Jihad.

بَابُ الشَّجَاعَةِ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَالْجُبْنِ:
باب الشجاعة فى الحرب والجبن:
(24) Chapter. Bravery and cowardice in the battle.

بَابُ مَا يُتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ:
باب ما يتعوذ من الجبن:
(25) Chapter. Seeking refuge with Allah from cowardice.

بَابُ مَنْ حَدَّثَ بِمَشَاهِدِهِ فِي الْحَرْبِ:
باب من حدث بمشاهده فى الحرب:
(26) Chapter. Whoever described what he has witnessed in the war.

بَابُ وُجُوبِ النَّفِيرِ وَمَا يَجِبُ مِنَ الْجِهَادِ وَالنِّيَّةِ:
باب وجوب النفير وما يجب من الجهاد والنية:
(27) Chapter. The obligation of going out for Jilhad when there is a general call to arms, and what sort of Jihad and intentions are compulsory.

بَابُ الْكَافِرِ يَقْتُلُ الْمُسْلِمَ ثُمَّ يُسْلِمُ فَيُسَدِّدُ بَعْدُ وَيُقْتَلُ:
باب الكافر يقتل المسلم ثم يسلم فيسدد بعد ويقتل:
(28) Chapter. (What about) a disbeliever who kills a Muslim and later on embraces Islam and starts doing good deeds and gets killed (in Allah’s Cause)?

بَابُ مَنِ اخْتَارَ الْغَزْوَ عَلَى الصَّوْمِ:
باب من اختار الغزو على الصوم:
(29) Chapter. Whoever preferred Jihad to Saum (fasting).

بَابُ الشَّهَادَةُ سَبْعٌ سِوَى الْقَتْلِ:
باب الشهادة سبع سوى القتل:
(30) Chapter. There are seven martyrs other than those who are killed in Jihad (i.e., eight).

بَابُ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {لاَ يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ دَرَجَةً وَكُلاًّ وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الْحُسْنَى وَفَضَّلَ اللَّهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا} :
باب قول الله تعالى: {لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين غير أولي الضرر والمجاهدون فى سبيل الله بأموالهم وأنفسهم فضل الله المجاهدين بأموالهم وأنفسهم على القاعدين درجة وكلا وعد الله الحسنى وفضل الله المجاهدين على القاعدين} إلى قوله: {غفورا رحيما} :
(31) Chapter. The Statement of Allah: “Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame)..(up to).. Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (V.4:95,96).

بَابُ الصَّبْرِ عِنْدَ الْقِتَالِ:
باب الصبر عند القتال:
(32) Chapter. Patience during fighting.

بَابُ التَّحْرِيضِ عَلَى الْقِتَالِ:
باب التحريض على القتال:
(33) Chapter. Rousing and exhorting people to fight.

بَابُ حَفْرِ الْخَنْدَقِ:
باب حفر الخندق:
(34) Chapter. The digging of the Khandaq (trench).

بَابُ مَنْ حَبَسَهُ الْعُذْرُ عَنِ الْغَزْوِ:
باب من حبسه العذر عن الغزو:
(35) Chapter. (The rewad of) whoever is held back from Jihad by a legal cause.

بَابُ فَضْلِ الصَّوْمِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب فضل الصوم فى سبيل الله:
(36) Chapter. The superiority of observing Saum (fast) in Allah’s Cause (to seek His good pleasure).

بَابُ فَضْلِ النَّفَقَةِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب فضل النفقة فى سبيل الله:
(37) Chapter. The superiority of spending in Allah’s Cause (i.e., for Jihad).

بَابُ فَضْلِ مَنْ جَهَّزَ غَازِيًا أَوْ خَلَفَهُ بِخَيْرٍ:
باب فضل من جهز غازيا أو خلفه بخير:
(38) Chapter. The superiority of one who prepares a Ghazi (fighter for Jihad) or looks after his dependents in his absence.

بَابُ التَّحَنُّطِ عِنْدَ الْقِتَالِ:
باب التحنط عند القتال:
(39) Chapter. To apply Hanut (i.e., a kind os scent) during the battle.

بَابُ فَضْلِ الطَّلِيعَةِ:
باب فضل الطليعة:
(40) Chapter. The superiority of the reconnoiterer.

بَابُ هَلْ يُبْعَثُ الطَّلِيعَةُ وَحْدَهُ:
باب هل يبعث الطليعة وحده:
(41) Chapter. Can the reconnoitrer be sent alone?

بَابُ سَفَرِ الاِثْنَيْنِ:
باب سفر الاثنين:
(42) Chapter. The travelling of two persons together.

بَابُ الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ:
باب الخيل معقود فى نواصيها الخير إلى يوم القيامة:
(43) Chapter. Good will remain (as a peranent quality) in the forelocks of horses (especially those kept for the purpose of Jihad) till the Day of Resurrection.

بَابُ الْجِهَادُ مَاضٍ مَعَ الْبَرِّ وَالْفَاجِرِ:
باب الجهاد ماض مع البر والفاجر:
(44) Chapter. Jihad is to be carried on whether the Muslim ruler who calls for it is good or bad.

بَابُ مَنِ احْتَبَسَ فَرَسًا لِقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: {وَمِنْ رِبَاطِ الْخَيْلِ} :
باب من احتبس فرسا لقوله تعالى: {ومن رباط الخيل} :
(45) Chapter. (The superiority of) the one keeps a horse (for the purpose of Jihad in Allah’s Cause), as is indicated by the Statement of Allah: "[And make ready against them all you can of power,] including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery etc,)..." (V.8:60)

(46) Chapter. To name a horse and a donkey.

بَابُ مَا يُذْكَرُ مِنْ شُؤْمِ الْفَرَسِ:
باب ما يذكر من شؤم الفرس:
(47) Chapter. What has been said about the evil omen of a horse.

بَابُ الْخَيْلُ لِثَلاَثَةٍ:
باب الخيل لثلاثة:
(48) Chapter. Horses (are kept) for three (purposes).

بَابُ مَنْ ضَرَبَ دَابَّةَ غَيْرِهِ فِي الْغَزْوِ:
باب من ضرب دابة غيره فى الغزو:
(49) Chapter. Whoever beats somebody else’s animal during the battle (intending to help its rider).

بَابُ الرُّكُوبِ عَلَى الدَّابَّةِ الصَّعْبَةِ وَالْفُحُولَةِ مِنَ الْخَيْلِ:
باب الركوب على الدابة الصعبة والفحولة من الخيل:
(50) Chapter. Riding on an unmanageable animal or a stallion horse.

(51) Chapter. The share of the horse (from the booty)...

(52) Chapter. Leading somebody else’s animal during the battle.

(53) Chapter. The saddle and the stirrup of an animal.

(58) Chapter. The extreme limit of the distance of the race of horses that have been made lean.

(59) Chapter. The she-camel of the Prophet (p.b.u.h).

(60) Chapter. Going to holy battles on a donkey.

(61) Chapter. The white mule of the Prophet (p.b.u.h).

(64) Chapter. The man’s selection of one wive to accompany in holy battles.

(65) Chapter. The Jihad of women and their fighting along with men.

باب حمل النساء القرب إلى الناس فى الغزو:
(66) Chapter. The carrying of water-skins by the women to the people (and giving them water to drink) during holy battles.

بَابُ مُدَاوَاةِ النِّسَاءِ الْجَرْحَى فِي الْغَزْوِ:
باب مداواة النساء الجرحى فى الغزو:
(67) Chapter. The treatment of the wounded by the women during holy battles.

(68) Chapter. The bringing back of the wounded and the killed by the women.

باب نزع السهم من البدن:
(69) Chapter. Removing the arrow from the body.

(70) Chapter. Vigilance during holy battles in Allah’s Cause.

(71) Chapter. The service, during holy battles.

بَابُ فَضْلِ مَنْ حَمَلَ مَتَاعَ صَاحِبِهِ فِي السَّفَرِ:
باب فضل من حمل متاع صاحبه فى السفر:
(72) Chapter. The superiority of him who carries the luggage of his companions during a journey.

بَابُ فَضْلِ رِبَاطِ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ:
باب فضل رباط يوم فى سبيل الله:
(73) Chapter. The superiority of guarding (Muslims from infidels) for a day in Allah’s Cause.

بَابُ مَنْ غَزَا بِصَبِيٍّ لِلْخِدْمَةِ:
باب من غزا بصبي للخدمة:
(74) Chapter. Whoever sets off for a holy battle accompanied by a boy-servant.

بَابُ رُكُوبِ الْبَحْرِ:
باب ركوب البحر:
(75) Chapter. To go on a sea- voyage.

بَابُ مَنِ اسْتَعَانَ بِالضُّعَفَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ فِي الْحَرْبِ:
باب من استعان بالضعفاء والصالحين فى الحرب:
(76) Chapter. Whoever sought the help of poor and pious men in war.

بَابُ لاَ يَقُولُ فُلاَنٌ شَهِيدٌ:
باب لا يقول فلان شهيد:
(77) Chapter. Do not say that so-and-so is a martyr.

بَابُ التَّحْرِيضِ عَلَى الرَّمْيِ:
باب التحريض على الرمي:
(78) Chapter. Exhortation to archery (i.e., arrow throwing).

بَابُ اللَّهْوِ بِالْحِرَابِ وَنَحْوِهَا:
باب اللهو بالحراب ونحوها:
(79) Chapter. To play with spears and other similar arms.

بَابُ الْمِجَنِّ وَمَنْ يَتَتَرَّسُ بِتُرْسِ صَاحِبِهِ:
باب المجن ومن يتترس بترس صاحبه:
(80) Chapter. The shield, and shielding oneself with the shield of his companion.

باب الدرق:
(81) Chapter. The (leather) shield.

بَابُ الْحَمَائِلِ وَتَعْلِيقِ السَّيْفِ بِالْعُنُقِ:
باب الحمائل وتعليق السيف بالعنق:
(82) Chapter. The straps for suspending swords and the hanging of the sword by the neck.

بَابُ حِلْيَةِ السُّيُوفِ:
باب حلية السيوف:
(83) Chapter. (What has been said regarding) the decoration of swords (with gold and silver etc.).

بَابُ مَنْ عَلَّقَ سَيْفَهُ بِالشَّجَرِ فِي السَّفَرِ عِنْدَ الْقَائِلَةِ:
باب من علق سيفه بالشجر فى السفر عند القائلة:
(84) Chapter. Whoever hung his sword on a tree at midday nap.

باب لبس البيضة:
(85) Chapter. The wearing of a helmet.

بَابُ مَنْ لَمْ يَرَ كَسْرَ السِّلاَحِ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ:
باب من لم ير كسر السلاح عند الموت:

(112) Chapter. If the Prophet (p.b.u.h) had not started fighting during the early hours of the day, he would delay it till the sun had declined (i.e., after midday).

(166) Chapter. Shouting, “Ya Sabahah!” as loudly as possible on seeing the enemy to let the people hear it.

(181) Chapter. To write down the names of (i.e., listing) the people by the Imam.

باب إن الله يؤيد الدين بالرجل الفاجر:
(182) Chapter. Allah may support the religion (Islam) with a Fajir (an evil, disobedient, wicked) man.

بَابُ مَنْ تَأَمَّرَ فِي الْحَرْبِ مِنْ غَيْرِ إِمْرَةٍ إِذَا خَافَ الْعَدُوَّ:
باب من تأمر فى الحرب من غير إمرة إذا خاف العدو:
(183) Chapter. (It is permissible for) somebody to take over the leadership of the army during a battle with being appointed when there is danger from the enemy.

(184) Chapter. Supporting with reinforcements.

بَابُ مَنْ غَلَبَ الْعَدُوَّ فَأَقَامَ عَلَى عَرْصَتِهِمْ ثَلاَثًا:
باب من غلب العدو فأقام على عرصتهم ثلاثا:
(185) Chapter. Staying in the (enemy) town for three (days and nights) on having victory over the enemy.

بَابُ مَنْ قَسَمَ الْغَنِيمَةَ فِي غَزْوِهِ وَسَفَرِهِ:
باب من قسم الغنيمة فى غزوه وسفره:
(186) Chapter. The distribution of the war booty after a Ghazwa and during a journey.

بَابُ إِذَا غَنِمَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ مَالَ الْمُسْلِمِ ثُمَّ وَجَدَهُ الْمُسْلِمُ:
باب إذا غنم المشركون مال المسلم ثم وجده المسلم:
(187) Chapter. If Al-Mushrikun take the property of a Muslim as war booty and later on the Muslim gets it back (on overcoming them), (does the owner have the right to get it back or should it be included in the war booty gained by the Muslims)?

(191) Chapter. What is hated regarding the slaughtering of the camels and sheep of the booty (before its distribution).

(194) Chapter. There is no emigration (from Makkah) after the Conquest (of Makkah).

بَابُ إِذَا اضْطَرَّ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى النَّظَرِ فِي شُعُورِ أَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ إِذَا عَصَيْنَ اللَّهَ وَتَجْرِيدِهِنَّ:
باب إذا اضطر الرجل إلى النظر فى شعور أهل الذمة والمؤمنات إذا عصين الله وتجريدهن:
(195) Chapter. (It is permissible for a man) to look in (or search) the hair of the Dhimmi women (i.e., non-Muslims living under the protection of Muslims) and that of the lady-believers if they disobey Allah, and to compel them to take off their clothes if there is necessity.
